Autumn Passage
While laying in a hospital bed at Bryn Mawr Hospital in October 2007, after having started treatment for Nephrotic Syndrome and developing blood clots in my renal veins, Angel Doctor said to me repeatedly, “You will get better; this is very treatable.” When I naively asked if we were talking days, weeks, or months, Angel gave me that unbelievably compassionate look of hers and replied, “Probably a year or more.”
I decided then that if I did get better I was going to sail my boat from the British Virgin Islands to Bermuda (approximately 1,000 miles) solo. Alone. Just me. In May of 2009, a year and a half and some superior medical treatment later, Autumn Passage and I will be on our way.
This trip is dedicated with grateful appreciation to Dr. Sophia Moldavsky, MD, Bryn Mawr Hospital, Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania.
